Friendly Filters

Using filters to refine your search results is a strategy you will use again and again, regardless of which database you are using. Some elements of your search work best as filters instead of keywords (age, sex, or species). 

Finding all the available filters can be a bit tricky. Let's use PubMed as an example.

By default, PubMed does not display all its filters. (There are over 70 filters for 'Article Types' alone!) 

  • To display more categories of filters, and more filters within a category, click ‘Additional Filters’ (ex., 'Age')
