Although reviews are secondary in nature, not all reviews are created equal.
A literature review provides a synthesis of existing research on a particular topic. It will often classify and compare prior research studies, reviews of literature and theoretical articles.
A systematic review, on the other hand, aims to identify and synthesize scholarly research on a particular topic in an unbiased, reproducible way. It begins with a clearly formulated question and uses systematic methods to identify, select and critically appraise relevant research studies.
Keep in mind that many databases also contain reviews of books, book chapters and singular articles. These are not the [reviews] you are looking for... move along.
