The Bastyr University Library is committed to creating a diverse, inclusive, and equitable environment for students, staff and faculty which is central to academic excellence and freedom. To achieve this, we aim to review, evaluate, and rectify library systems, policies and procedures to reflect DEI values outlined in the BU strategic framework (below).
Areas of focus:
A collection of library books and videos that promote competency and awareness of the dimensions and complexities involved in caring for people from diverse cultural backgrounds, and addressing racial inequality and privilege issues.
Please contact the library with questions and suggestions, or we encourage you to make an appointment with any of our reference and instruction librarians.
The DEI Strategic Framework is founded on the principle that diversity, equity, and inclusion work is everyone’s responsibility. Each member of the Bastyr community must play an active role in creating and nurturing an inclusive and equitable community where each one feels seen, heard and belongs.
Research debates
Introductions to some of the issues and on-going debates intended to prompt further inquiry and critical evaluation of what is found– and not found – in the research for areas of study at BU. They are not a comprehensive overview of the field or the state of the research in the field. Librarians are available to help explore the research, and help answer questions about the context of that research.
Collaborate with faculty to recommend diverse/inclusive resources (on request)
Write blog posts relevant to DEI
Cultural competence training (ongoing)
Staff completed Foundational training in January 2023. Toolkit training begins Winter quarter 2023.
