When you find an item of interest, you can also open the record, look for the assigned subject headings and then rerun your search using relevant ones for more results.

Problematic Subject Headings

Please be aware that some of the subject headings (tags) assigned to items are outdated and offensive. Classifications systems such as the Library of Congress lag behind current thinking and are slowly being updated. For example, in 2021, the offensive subject heading, Aliens was replaced with Noncitizens, and Illegal Aliens was replaced with Illegal Immigration.

Watch this video, Change the Subject, to learn how "Dartmouth College challenged anti-immigrant language in the Library of Congress, their activism sparked a movement--and a cataloging term became a flashpoint in the immigration debate on Capitol Hill."
