Keeping up to date

As you will not start writing your capstone for a few months, it's important to know if there are any publications or developments in your field of interest.

Once you have a robust search in PubMed, you can set up an alert.  PubMed will send you email updates every time something new is published that fits your search.  This will help ensure that your research materials are still up to date when you start writing.

You can set up these alerts in other databases too.  For your capstone, PubMed and Embase are good starting point, but set up alerts in any other database that you have found helpful too!

Keeping up with new research

To set up alerts in Embase

Simply login using the same credentials as your Mendeley account (they're owned by the same publisher; Elsevier)

Run the search and then set alerts to get any new articles that fit your search criteria:

Here's an older tutorial where we show you how to affiliate your account to Bastyr too.

Keeping up with news from your field!

As well as being aware of new research that has been published, staying up-to-date about field you work in helps your professional development, and keeps you connected to the issues other practitioners are dealing with.

One way to keep up with latest news and developments is to set up a system that pulls all relevant news and blog posts in to one place!  One such free tool is Feedly

Feedly.com

You can set up a free account, and simply add in the URL of any blogs or professional websites that you want to keep up with. You can also search for other blogs by entering keywords.  Your Feedly account will then provide a one-stop place to check for all the articles from all the blogs or websites you follow.

Examples include:

Acupuncture and Herbs News and Research

Nature - Issue - nature.com science feeds

Integrative Medicine News from Natural Standard
