This tutorial provides information on how to incorporate some advanced search techniques, as well as organize and cite your work.

This tutorial, including Mendeley set-up should be completed before class.  Please make sure you finish the entire tutorial (text & videos) before attempting your assignment!

Tutorial Competencies

  1. Identify and understand how to use discipline specific databases and tools.
  2. Construct and implement effectively designed search strategies using advanced search techniques including specialized database features.
  3. Understand the difference between subject headings and keywords, and incorporates both into search strategies.
  4. Recognize that searching is an iterative process and revises search strategies based on results.
  5. Apply critical thinking skills to information in all formats and can articulate criteria for credible resources.
  6. Understand the legal, economic, and social implications in information access.
  7. Understand and know how to use an information management system.
