TR3105: Introduction to Scientific Method

About this Tutorial

This tutorial will teach you the basic skills of how to locate relevant information, journal articles and studies efficiently. It should take you one to two hours to complete. Advanced skills will be taught in TR4100.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand what research is.
  • Differentiate between types of literature (primary and secondary). 
  • Understand the structure of databases versus the Internet, and the implications for searching.
  • The ability to create a search strategy. Assess the quality of information by applying critical thinking skills.
  • Understand that information has value and the concept of plagiarism.
