Keeping up with Clinical Research: Database Personal Accounts

This LibGuide features strategies for keeping current with research.

Overview

Most major databases, including PubMed, DynaMed*, CINAHL Complete* and Natural Medicines* have personal accounts, Setting one up enables time-saving features such as the ones below. Look for an icon for registering/signing in which is often in the upper right. If it isn't obvious, check HELP.

NCBI Tutorial

A PubMed MyNCBI account is free and easy to set up. Here are some of the features::

  • Save searches and/or collections of citations on topics of interest;
  • Receive alerts when new citations on topics of interest are added to PubMed. You decide if and how often you want email alerts; you can also check to see what's new since the last time you ran a search any time you want just by accessing your account.
  • Compile a list of journals that you want to keep current with and receive regular email alerts with the newest citations; it's like checking multiple tables of contents all at the same time.
