Library Perks Post Graduation

Graduating students in mortar boards First and foremost, congratulations class of 2021! Given your achievements during a pandemic, we can only imagine what you’ll accomplish as the world returns to a new normal.

You may be wondering what the library has to offer once you begin the career you worked so hard for. The most important thing to remember is that all things start with the alumni homepage designed just for you.

Once you’ve graduated, your information needs will change (no more papers to write, yay!). Services include lifelong checkout privileges, assistance with retrieving full-text articles, database and other tutorials, and research consultations. Although these perks may not sound exciting now, they will when you need them.

Access to subscription resources will continue until September 1. After that, look for the databases in the A—Z list without the lock icon and start searching! If you’re an eligible practitioner in the state of Washington, be sure to register for HEALWA, a suite of evidence-based resources paid for by licensing fees. Many of the subscription databases (the ones with the lock icon) are available via HEALWA including DynaMed, Natural Medicines, ClinicalKey, and CINAHL. (UpToDate isn't available.)

If you plan to use UpToDate in your practice, they offer students a reduced rate (select Residents, Fellows and Students) for a limited period after graduation. See this page for details. CME will not be included because it's considered a trainee account.

For a complete list of other free resources, see the details on the homepage. And while you’re there, be sure to check out the list of handy tips we’ve noted for finding additional resources beyond BU.

As the pandemic winds down, we look forward to opening the physical library as is deemed safe. Be sure to check the blog or library homepage for current information. As always, if you have any questions, contact the library (library@bastyr.edu) or via chat. For reference and more complex questions,  schedule a consultation from the library homepage. Best of luck!
