On Monday, January 18th, 2020, the library will be closed in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.  Many people describe this federal holiday as a "day on" not a "day off", as they choose to celebrate and honor the work of Dr King through service.

If you're looking for service projects to volunteer for, the Americorps MLK Day of Service site is a great resource to help you identify opportunities to serve across the US.

You can also explore local celebrations; here are some starting points to see what the Seattle and San Diego area communities are doing:

  • San Diego area - the parade is canceled, but HandsOnSanDiego has opportunities for service, and the Times of San Diego offers a selection of celebration and education events.
  • Seattle area - The Seattle Times has a selection of virtual and distanced events in the Puget Sound region.
